Manufacturer tools (Niagara, vendor software) vs Structio

By Bassirou Thiam, building automation engineer · Updated

Manufacturer and platform tools, such as the Niagara Framework or a vendor's engineering software, are made to configure, program and supervise controllers. They are not made to produce the submittal: the riser and points list are still drawn and typed elsewhere. Structio produces those documents for any brand, and complements the programming tool.

What manufacturer tools do well

  • configure and program controllers of their platform;
  • discover devices on site and commission them;
  • run the front end, trends and alarms.

Where they stop

  • they work after the design, once controllers are chosen and online;
  • each is tied to its platform, while many jobs mix brands;
  • the submittal documents, riser and points list, are not their output.

Use both

Design and submit with Structio, then program with your platform's tool. Keep your manufacturer software for what it does best: programming and commissioning.

When to choose Structio

Structio is built for one job: you describe the building once (floors, rooms, equipment, controllers) and it draws the network diagram and builds the points list from that same project, kept in sync when the job changes. Any controller brand, unlimited users, a 7-day free trial.
