How do you keep BAS as-builts up to date?

By Bassirou Thiam, building automation engineer · Updated

Do not make them at the end. Keep one source for the drawings, issue it as a locked PDF to the field, and carry every change made on site back into that source as it happens. At closeout, the source already is the as-built set. As-builts go wrong when the same information lives in several files.

A simple routine

  1. Issue the approved submittal as a locked PDF to the installers.
  2. Every change on site (a moved controller, an added point, a new address) goes back into the source file the same week.
  3. At closeout, export the source again: that is the record set.

Why one source matters

When the riser, the points list and the device schedule are separate files, a change made in one is forgotten in another. That is exactly what Structio removes: one project, every document generated from it. See as-built drawings.
