Is the points list a separate document or a view of the design?

By Bassirou Thiam, building automation engineer · Updated

Many experienced designers treat it as a view. The control schematic shows every input and output between the BAS and the devices; the sequence holds the rest. A points list, when the client asks for one, is a re-presentation of that same information. Anything typed twice eventually disagrees.

Why it matters

If the points list is maintained as its own file, every change has to be made in two places, and reviewers find the mismatches. If it is generated from the design, it cannot drift.

How Structio applies it

In Structio the project is the source: equipment, controllers and their points. The network diagram and the points list are both generated from it. See what goes in a BAS points list.
