What is an I/O point in building automation?
By Bassirou Thiam, building automation engineer · Updated
An I/O point is a physical input or output wired to a BAS controller terminal: a sensor or contact the controller reads (input) or an actuator or relay it drives (output). Counting I/O points by type, per controller, is how controllers are sized; software points are counted separately.
I/O summary
The I/O summary totals inputs and outputs by type for each controller. It is the check that the selected controller, plus any expansion modules, has enough terminals.
