What is a BAS points list?

By Bassirou Thiam, building automation engineer · Updated

A points list, also called an I/O list or points schedule, is the table of every input and output each BAS controller handles: point name, type (AI, AO, BI, BO or software value), the field device it reads or drives, and its location. It sizes the controllers and drives programming, graphics and checkout.

Who uses it

The designer sizes controllers from it, the programmer builds the database from it, the graphics follow it, and the technician checks every point against it at startup. That is why its point names must match the sequences and the front end.

Columns, point types and a free template: what goes in a BAS points list.
