What is a sequence of operations?

By Bassirou Thiam, building automation engineer · Updated

A sequence of operations (SOO) is the written description of how a building system is controlled: its modes, start and stop conditions, setpoints and control loops, alarms and safeties. It is part of the BAS submittal and should refer to the exact point names of the points list.

Standard sequences

ASHRAE Guideline 36 publishes standardized high-performance sequences for common systems such as multiple-zone VAV air handlers. When it is specified, the contractor implements it rather than writing a sequence from scratch.

How to write one: how to write a sequence of operations.
